Why Study Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a ground-based grappling martial art that focuses on leverage, control, and joint manipulation, enabling technique to triumph over brute strength. When applied correctly, it allows a smaller individual to effectively manage and neutralise a larger, stronger opponent.

Since real-world altercations frequently transition to the ground, BJJ equips practitioners with the skills to safely navigate and control ground combat, making it one of the most practical self-defence disciplines available.

Additionally, BJJ plays a significant role in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA). For those aspiring to compete professionally, mastering ground control, dominant positioning, and effective submissions is crucial for success in the sport.

Even for those with no intention of competing, BJJ offers incredible benefits in fitness, endurance, and mental sharpness. It enhances cardiovascular conditioning and overall physical resilience while fostering a strong sense of community. Training partners work together to refine techniques and push each other to new levels, creating a supportive and empowering environment unlike any other.

What Will My First Class Look Like?

Congratulations! You just submitted your free class request. If you didn’t already specify a date and time, one of our team will contact you to do so. They’ll also contact you the day before to confirm you're still OK to attend.

If you’ve never done Jiu Jitsu, your first class will be one of our Fundamentals classes. Before class, you get a 30-minute orientation session with a coach where you’ll learn the basics: bowing onto the mat, BJJ history, and common positions and movements.
